Friday April 25, 2014, 157 miles (253 km) – Total so far: 2,294 miles (3,692 km)
April 23, 2014 65 miles The morning was very windy as we rode out of town then the rain started again. Our goal for the day was Zadar as this is a ferry city and we are interested in island hopping. Jocelyn did a fine job in finding the ferry but the options for going to an island and continuing south to another pick up place just wasn’t there so we continued south out of Zadar to Bibinje where we found a campsite on a family’s seaside property. There are many campsites on private property which are very nice. We were the only campers.
April 24, 2014 50 miles After we left it started raining again. Fortunately it was dry when we left so we didn’t have to pack a wet tent. Even though we are not on a highway the minor roads do get aggravating when it rains as the drivers do not slow down. We stopped several times for breaks when the rain increased. Towards the end of the day we were once again in an isolated area and found a great campsite before the town of Primosten. Once again we were the only ones in the camp until later that night. The owner, Stipe, warmly welcomed us into his new campsite. What a great spot to camp and sleep. We are in the tent when the sun goes down at 8 and up at 6 with the rising light.
April 25, 2014 42 miles After talking with Stipe (Steve in the US) we were more interested in island hopping from the large city of Split. So we took off for there early and after 4 hours navigated in this huge city to the ferry docks. We bought a ticket to Vela Luka on the island of Korcula and at 3 pm we were aboard for a 3 hour ferry ride. And it really was a “3 hour tour!” Korcula is 62 miles west of the Croatian peninsula. When we arrived we found a hotel and will ride south along the island tomorrow. We are really looking forward to this island riding to the next ferry port and island.
