A short ride back to Motueka

Thursday October 25, 2012, 18 miles (29 km) – Total so far: 344 miles (554 km)

After three nights in Marahau it was time to move on. Jocelyn has the cold I have been fighting since our ride started. In the Antarctic with no flights coming in for several months we were pretty much sick free. So this cold was bound to happen. I have been struggling on the bike but this rest has been good. Jocelyn will power through this too.

We rested this morning and got a late start to travel back to Motueka the smart coastal route by way of Kaiteriteri Beach as it is not as steep. Since we didn’t get to Motueka until mid-afternoon we settled on the Hat Trick Backpackers for the night as it was too late to make the run along the Motueka River Highway to the next accommodation campground in Tapawera. This will begin our trek to the west coast.

During a cycling tour you need to rest occasionally. This is what we did Wednesday.
