Another long day on the saddle

Tuesday November 6, 2012, 76 miles (122 km) – Total so far: 775 miles (1,247 km)

We left Fox Glacier thinking that we would stop in Lake Paringa for the night as it was only 42 miles and the next town of Haast Junction was another 34 miles after that. After a delicious lunch at the South WestLand Salmon Farm we rode into Lake Paringa but didn’t like the accommodation so we pressed on for Haast. The day ended up being very long as there were three big hills between us and Haast. We powered through that and finally arrived to a nice motel in Haast after 9 ½ hours on the road. Tomorrow we have another long day crossing the Haast Pass that connects the West Coast with the Otago Valley of South Island.
