Friday June 26, 2015, 95 miles (153 km) – Total so far: 8,612 miles (13,860 km)
Two days 95 miles We spent two nights in Florence enjoying a vacation home that Jocelyn’s friend Terry and his wife Kim manage. We drove to Eugene on the day off to explore that part of Oregon. Terry and Kim were quite the hosts and treated us to wonderful large bowl of all kinds of seafood from their beachside home. We last ate like this on the Spanish coast during our European and Asian ride in 2014. Wednesday we rode out of Florence and continued south to the town of North Bend north of Coos Bay. Camping seemed sparse so Andee and Jocelyn drove ahead and checked out potential campsites. This area of the Oregon coast is full of sand dunes and is very popular with 4 wheel ATVs and an assortment of other dirt bikes. As suspected most campsites were full with ATV enthusiasts. The few that did have space did not take tents. There have been several campgrounds like this and I have yet to figure out why. We were near a KOA in North Bend so instead of riding on we quit early in the day (3 pm) and stayed at a nice tent site.
Today I had my first bike problem. I noticed yesterday that climbing was more difficult than usual and today I noticed a definite wobble on the rear wheel. I stopped and discovered the rear wheel way out of true and rubbing on the brake pad so I disconnected the brakes and continued to the town of Bandon and South Coast Bicycles where Woody diagnosed the problem as the rear wheel having been hit somewhere and being way out of true. He loosened all the spokes then started over on the truing. After a test ride we continued south to a KOA about 20 miles south of Bandon in the town of Langois. I’m still trying to figure out how the wheel was hit to be so far off.
Thanks Terry. Whatever it is called, it was great. Thanks for the hospitality and recipe!
