Sunday December 13, 2015, 45 miles (72 km) – Total so far: 13,370 miles (21,517 km)
December 10, 2015 The surfing has been great but we decided to move on. Two months ago we made reservations to fly home for Christmas on December 18. You might say we are taking “a vacation from our vacation”.After stopping at the post office to send more trinkets home we cycled to the town of Nicoya. Jocelyn had contacted a warmshowers host who offered to store our bikes for a month. We could have stayed at the beach and surfed another week but we missed home and moved up our departure date from San Jose airport up a week. We also had lined up another warmshowers host in San Jose. But after talking with many people we decided not to cycle the very dangerous no shoulder climbing route to San Jose as it is full of trucks and buses. We spent the night at a cheap hotel downtown then cycled to Armando, Patience and Lucas’ (14 months) country home where we packed up a pannier each for our flight then caught a bus to San Jose Airport. The family is so nice to store our bikes and gear until January 13th. We were way ahead of schedule so we took a short taxi ride to a restaurant area to hang out for several hours before our 01:05 am flight to Houston then Orlando.
December 13, 2015 Thank you for reading our bicycling adventures this year, years past, and upcoming. We also thank you for all your comments and emails which mean so much to us. We will be returning to Costa Rica on January 13th to continue this wonderful trip of world discovery on bicycles. We are looking forward to South America. If anyone has recently traveled around the Darien Gap in Columbia by boat or flying we would like to hear how you did it.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
FatherDaughterCyclingAdventures, Mike, Andee, Cary and Jocelyn Rice
