Riding south through Guatemala towards Honduras

Thursday October 15, 2015, 85 miles (137 km) – Total so far: 12,350 miles (19,875 km)

We left Flores and headed south towards Honduras. The two days have been slow due to rain. Guatemala is green for a reason – all the rain. It is indeed a tropical rainforest. The road has been good especially with a nice shoulder. The truck and bus drivers are more courteous and we get many good honks. We don’t see the roads patrolled as in Mexico but feel very safe here.

Our friend Jesse that we met in Flores. We shared several meals and adventures. We hope to meet up with him again as we both travel south to Argentina.

Guatemala is very green for a reason - rain and lots of it. The mosquitoes could carry us away. I'll never complain about mosquitoes in Florida again!

The president was arrested last month so there are elections coming up. Unfortunately we see a lot of defaced political signs.

A very large uncovered Mayan pyramid that we could hike but it is so muddy here in Ixobel. The Mayans lived nearby in many caves that are available for exploring.
