Sunday September 11, 2011, 67 miles (108 km) – Total so far: 366 miles (589 km)
This was going to be a break day but we decided to ride. After a send off from my wife, son and Jocelyn’s friend we rode out on HWY 98. It was a good but hot ride with the temperature gauge on Jocelyn’s bike going over 100. We rode for 40 miles before coming upon a biker bar for a break and lunch. We are bikers too! As often happens when we come upon small towns we question whether to choose the first eating establishment or one further down the road. I compare this to surfing. When a wave set is approaching the experienced surfer doesn’t pick the first one but waits for one of the next waves. If you take the first wave you usually get pounded by the other waves as you paddle back out. But as often is the case these small towns only have one eating establishment. And it was true for this town. We split the blackened grouper sandwich which was excellent.
The two beers I had plus some Bob Dylan fueled me for the rest of the day to our first campground on Apalachee Bay. It was an excellent campsite right on the water. We set up the Hubba Hubba tent with gear shed. We didn’t put on the rain cover so slept in a screened in enclosure. We watched the full moon pass over the tent and pine trees. It was a hard ride and good sleep.
The pictures are out of order as the local WiFi connection didn’t work well. From now on I will use my MiFi.
