Yesterday we had heard about a storm system moving down to the South Island so we knew that riding today was going to be questionable. I was up early checking the weather forecast on the internet and also the TV news. When the weather guy said the weather was going to be “hideous with gale force winds” today I figured that was it. It didn’t really look that bad outside but overnight there were occasional very strong gusts buffeting our room. And sure enough it is now raining hard sideways from the northwest. I am sure glad we started our ride a day early and that we found this room.
This trip isn’t about a destination but the journey. We are not on any kind of schedule so we are fine with the weather. And besides the rain is what makes New Zealand so beautiful. Along with that the people have been super nice and friendly. Tomorrow we will head northwest 50km up the hill to Hanmer Springs that is famous for hot springs.
I purchased a prepaid Vodafone Mobile Broadband USB stick. It works great and at $49 for the stick and $50 for the 2gb package it is a real deal. That would be about $80 US.
