Wednesday April 23, 2014, 116 miles (187 km) – Total so far: 2,137 miles (3,439 km)
April 20, 2014 51 miles We left early on this Easter morning with a slight drizzle. The climbing started immediately as we left Pazin and headed to the other side of the Croatian peninsula. The weather finally turned sunny after a few hours as we reached the other side and began our northern ride up this coast to the large town of Rikeja after which the coast curves to the south. We looked all around for a campsite but since it was late we settled into another hotel room.
April 21, 2014 20 miles Once again the day started with a light rain but got progressively worse. The traffic was bad as the cars sped by. Most drivers pass us by inches which can be very unnerving especially with the rain. Around lunch time we were soaked in the heavy downpour and decided to stop for lunch. The rain never let up and we figured it was too dangerous to ride. Across the street we checked into another hotel in the town of Novi Vinodolski (what a cool town name). At least the hotels are cheaper now.
April 22, 2014 45 miles The day started clearing and was soon sunny as we climbed all day through this mostly isolated part of the country. We only passed through one town but saw many islands just off the coast. Most of these islands are for tourism and look bare and rocky. Towards sunset we rode into the town of Karlobag. The nearest campsites were 15 miles away. We rented a room from a private home at a great price in this really nice little town. It took as all day to get those 45 miles and we were really proud of that.

Many towns look like this and have a welcome sign.

Thank you for providing us with the pictures that help us to see this beautfiul area. I have heard about the peninsula, and now we have been there through your eyes. I am sorry that the rain has checked your progress and made it a bit stressful. Please do pull over and take time to get where you are going=ALive! Those roadsides and cliffs do not seem inviting. Take care and love always, Andee
