Friday August 7, 2015, 114 miles (183 km) – Total so far: 9,958 miles (16,026 km)
Two days 114 miles We left Estero Beach and headed south into the morning traffic. Soon we were on a more deserted Mexico 1 and continued through the interior through vineyards as there is no coastal road. In the afternoon the climbing began and we spent several hours with the backed up traffic with lots of trucks. It was a hard day especially with the 110 F heat. Most of the hilly roads are without shoulders so the riding was hard. Later in the afternoon we rode onto a newer road complete with shoulder and made our way to the small town of San Vicente where we found a small motel thanks to the police department.
The next morning we continued south where the traffic built up again. A very kind gentleman Gabino from San Quintin pulled over and said he is a warmshowers host and that he and his family would like to host us. In the last two years he has hosted 182 people! Even though San Quintin was over 50 miles away we worked hard at making it to his home and what a lovely and comfortable home it is. His wife, Lupita and daughter Fanny made us feel so welcome. I have said it many times, this trip is all about the people you meet.
