Day 2: When did Jocelyn become a bike roadie?

Wednesday September 7, 2011, 57 miles (92 km) – Total so far: 140 miles (225 km)

>We had a good night’s sleep and were out of the room by 0800. I let Jocelyn sleep in some. Riding through Daytona during rush hour wasn’t a lot of fun. We stopped at a local Ace Hardware to get a nut, bolt, and spacer for my front rack that lost some hardware yesterday. After a nerve racking ride through Daytona we found a nice breakfast place for some delicious pancakes in Ormand Beach. We continued on to Bunnell then went on to Palatka. It was a cool ride through pine trees. Except for the logging trucks it was fun. Jocelyn spent the day riding far ahead of me because I’m too slow I guess. Several times I lost track of her. I keep thinking it must be her Surly Long Haul Trucker but it is probably her youth. She didn’t train as much as I did but she is literally kicking my butt! She even passes me going up bridges while looking at me and smiling. I yell “showoff” to her. I always thought I would be the one in front. It is only day 2 so we will see. We arrived in Palatka around 4 today and stopped to see our options. According to the ACA map the next 2 towns in 22 miles have no camping or lodging. There is a state park here that we called but no camping. So we are in another motel. We still have plenty of time to use our 25 pounds in camping gear. But a decent shower and sleep after 8 hours on the road is sure nice.

Does anyone know how I can make Jocelyn’s link clickable?

I was laughed at for taking my beach cooler. It is a backpack that holds my favorite beverage at the end of the day. Lightweight too.
