We spent 11 days cycling here from Puerto Escondido and spent the day exploring the ruins. It was fascinating to see the Mayan pyramids, temples, and housing areas mixed in with the intense jungle growth. The noise from howler monkeys was awesome even though we did not see them.
It was a great day to spend in the past.
George, it always a pleasure to hear from you. Thank you!
Thanks Andee. I like to see ruins as ruins and not all restored. Tikal is very rough and Palenque more cleared and open. Both are great in their own ways. See you in a few months. Thanks for the tickets.
Thank you for writing Esther. There are so many things we are seeing. I remember studying the Mayan culture when I was in grammar school so it is so cool to experience it now. Jocelyn says hi.
Jocelyn, cool to see you with Spumoni, viewing Palenque ruins. Wish I had had
your stunning pictures to share with my 4th graders, when I used to teach Mexico. The
details you choose to share, Mike, are so clear. I did not know that jade masks were
created to cover the faces of the Mayan kings and queens. Continued safe journeys. Esther
Hello dear travelers.
Whether you trek by bike or walk those paths, I feel like you are sharing this journey in many ways. I bet there are lots of side notes that you could add and maybe somewhere you are keeping a complete journal. Now that you can compare ruins from several continents, I wonder which area you prefer? Since I have taught about the Central American countries for many years, I appreciate your view and pictures that connect what I may never see personally. Thank you and I am waiting to hear how your first days in Guatemala have been…Love always, Andee
Hi! you guys, loved the Mayan Ruins that always interested me. safe travels to you two. George
Hi Bob, Nice to hear from you. We could use a little of the ice weather these days. Just a blast or two!
Great stories Mike! I like the soup idea with your enemies. All’s well in Colorado- 3 more months of work and on to the Ice. Hi to Jocelyn!
