Two ladies biking part of the trail: “It’s too windy so we are going back to town for an ice cream.”

Friday November 16, 2012, 37 miles (60 km) – Total so far: 1,049 miles (1,688 km)

Yes, it was a windy day but it did not rain even though it tried. We left Ranfurly after a leisurely breakfast and then continued the climb up the trail. The views were completely different than yesterday as we have ridden through forests, flat farming areas, and desert like stretches. You pretty much see it all on the Otago Rail Trail. We stopped at a café in Lauder for lunch before continuing on a few more miles to Omakau where we decided to stay with the threatening rain. Our stop for tonight is the Omakau Hotel which is very old and beautiful with a proper pub.
