Cycling in Thailand…what a great country!

Thursday December 11, 2014, 143 miles (230 km) – Total so far: 7,129 miles (11,473 km)

Thursday December 11, 2014 two days 143 miles We have continued south along many forests and are having a great time. Yesterday at our mid-afternoon beer break we met a Swiss couple also headed to Bangkok and also stopping for their mid-afternoon beer break. This seems to be an occurrence of many cyclists and helps us continue for the long afternoon as too much water doesn’t quench our thirst after several hours cycling. We followed them to a hotel and enjoyed dinner with them. After breakfast we all took to the road again and Jocelyn picked a great spot for lunch as the owner spoke excellent English and French. We were soon joined by a dozen Thai roadies and had a great time talking with them and boy do they put down the food.

Once again we all decided to continue south and find a hotel together in the city of Tak, Thailand. We found a great one right on the river after meeting a just married young couple (Spain and Thai) who are 21 days into a cycling tour of Thailand in preparation of a world tour starting next year. The roads are getting crowded with touring cyclists! We then explored the local night market for excellent food and fun. Thailand…what a great country and what a great journey for us and our many new cycling friends! Bea and Peter of Switzerland our cycling companions of the last two days have an excellent website:

Monks on a pilgrimage. We have seen many walking south. Black feet and thin sandals. Ouch. We prefer the bike. We don't know what that thing on his butt is though.

Our bikes in the front. These temples are everywhere and completely open to the public. The monks keep to themselves.

"Fat Boys BBQ" in Cape Canaveral Florida was a mainstay for the entire space program. It then disappeared. Looks like it moved to Thailand!
