Riding south through Thailand

Tuesday December 9, 2014, 220 miles (354 km) – Total so far: 6,986 miles (11,243 km)

Tuesday December 9, 2014 three days 220 miles We began our ride towards Bangkok on Sunday. An extra day in Chiang Khong was possible but we decided to ride. Sunday was our first mostly flat day in months and it was a very welcome change because the next two had a few mountain passes to cross. The riding was easy and enjoyable. We can’t say enough good things about bicycling Thailand as the drivers are the most courteous of our entire trip, the roads are in excellent condition even in the mountain pass areas, the people very friendly, the food is just excellent and the beer is always cold. Jocelyn has a list of the top five vegetarian Thai meals listed on her phone. She just shows this to the cook and we are told if it is available. We are heading to the canals west of Bangkok because we have read many interesting things about that area.

Sometimes power lines just get in the way even though we will ride right up to some of these temples to try and take a picture on the other side.

  1. This is such an interesting part of your trip. I didn’t think I would want to be in the southeastern Asia countries, but now I have a different opinion…Maybe that is where I should extend my teaching career! I am getting very excited to see you two and know that you are traveling far every day, getting closer to your destination. The journey west sounds interesting and you seem to be making good progress toward your daily ride goals. Okay! Keep on trekking and take some pictures of the kids! Love always, andee
